The real life of Gabriela Silang

Gabriela Silang was born on 19 March 1731 in the Ilocos; sources differ on whether in Santa or in Abra. Widowed young, she married Diego Silang in 1757. When the British occupied Manila in 1762, Diego led a revolt in the Ilocos, allied himself with the British and was named governor of the province by them. On 28 May 1763 he was killed in Vigan by two former allies, Miguel Vicos and Pedro Becbec, who had been paid to do it. Gabriela fled to her uncle in Abra, took command of the revolt and on 10 September 1763 led an attack on Vigan that was driven back. Captured in Abra, she was executed in Vigan on 20 September 1763, the last of her company. She is remembered as La Generala, the first Filipina to lead a revolt.
