Tipu Sultan: history and tradition

Tipu succeeded Hyder Ali during the Second Anglo-Mysore War. The Treaty of Mangalore ended the war in 1784. Defeat in the Third Anglo-Mysore War forced major concessions. Tipu died in the assault on Seringapatam. His rule’s warfare and religious policies remain contested.
